2 Minor characters from Sonic the Hedgehog-Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo: My Thoughts

Good Thursday Morning, my name is Conductor Wolf and for today's though, I wanted to share thoughts on 2 of Sonic the Hedgehog's minor characters aka Ray the Flying Squirrel & Mighty the Armadillo. Before I start the post, I just want to throw in a quick note below before diving into my thoughts on this topic.

PLEASE Note: What I post below, are my thoughts & opinions that are backed with sources that I use located at the bottom as references to the post. Today's post is my thoughts & DOES NOT reflect the views and thoughts of Sonic the Hedgehog media or its creator SEGA!!!

Now On with the post

Like I stated above, both Ray the Flying Squirrel & Mighty the Armadillo are among a handful minor characters of the Sonic  Animated Universe. Beside Ray the Flying Squirrel & Mighty the Armadillo, the following list out 12 additional minor characters.

  1. Cream The Rabbit And Cheese
  2. Sticks The Badger
  3. Bean The Dynamite
  4. Bark The Polar Bear
  5. Cosmo
  6. Shade The Echidna
  7. Pseudo-Sonic
  8. Charmy Bee
  9. Jet The Hawk
  10. Fang The Sniper (Nack The Weasel)
  11. Honey The Cat
  12. Big the Cat
But getting back to focusing on Ray & Mighty in this post. Both Ray and Mighty are best friends and two minor characters within the Sonic Universe. According to sources (provided at the bottom),

Ray the Flying Squirrel makes his first appearance in SegaSonic the Hedgehog (1993 arcade videogame) where he is a playable character, he returns in Sonic Mania Plus (2018 expansion videogame of the 2017 Sonic Mania videogame). Ray is an anthropomorphic flying squirrel with yellow fur and dark tan skin on his muzzle, inner ears and front torso. He has black eyes, a small tapered hair tuft at the top back of his head (making it appear somewhat teardrop-shaped), a furry skin membrane connecting his waist to his lower arms, small, perky triangular ears, a shiny, bulbous black nose and a long club-shaped tail. Ray wears white gloves with large cuffs, and red sneakers with a white buckle-strap, white sock-like cuffs and gray soles. These shoes are almost identical to Sonic's shoes, but are a slightly darker shade of red.

After SegaSonic video game, Ray had appeared in the following

Mighty the Armadillo  is an anthropomorphic armadillo, whose body is black with red thick armor, which rounds from his forehead above to his lower back. His tail is black, like his body. Mighty's ears are side facing and funnel-shaped, and he has a medium-long and sharp black nose. Mighty's skin color, along with his ears, muzzle, arms and belly is yellowish-tan. He also has interconnected, cartoonish, circular eyes with black pupils, and wears white gloves with sock-like cuffs. Mighty made his first appearance also in SegaSonic the Hedgehog (1993 videogame).

After SegaSonic video game, Mighty had appeared in the following
  • Kunckles' Chaotix
  • Sonic Jam (cameo)
  • Sonic Gems Collection (cameo)
  • Sonic Generations (console/PC) (cameo)
  • Sonic the Comic
Both Mighty and Ray have appeared in the following:
  • Sonic Generations (console/PC) (cameo)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (manga) (cameo)
  • Archie Comics

My thoughts

In my opinion, I would like to see Ray the Flying Squirrel in a Sonic the Hedgehog animated TV show like Sonic X or have him star in his own animated show alongside Mighty the Armadillo. These two are two of the least used characters among many others who may/may not have appeared in more than 2 games and/or show. Based on researching these two characters, I can see a storyline for both of them alongside an interesting storyline that takes a look at the background of them. Below are some possibilities I think are worth having both Ray the flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo
  • Storylines
    • When and How does Ray and Mighty become friends?
    • Mighty the Armadillo's backstory
    • Ray the flying Squirrel's backstory

That's all I got to say about Sonic the Hedgehog's characters Ray the flying squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo.  I do hope you enjoy my thoughts. Please click either link below to learn more:
